River Horse Brewing Company

By TimRodgers

Located in Lambertville New Jersey right across the Delaware River from the historic turned “quaint” town of New Hope Pennsylvania, the River Horse Brewing Company was founded in 1996.  For such a relatively smaller size operation, the River Horse pumps out quality bold craft beers.  Their distribution reaches most of the mid-atlantic states on the eastern seaboard.

I’ve wasted many day trips to New Hope trying to impress bubbly blonde women by showing that I have a sensitive side that embraces art deco shops, small cafes, and other so called quaint shops.  When in reality, I’ve could have spent more quality time crossing the bridge to Lambertville and sampling the fine craft beers at the River Horse on those Saturday afternoons.

Nonetheless and many years later, I picked up some Hop Hazard unfiltered American Pale Ale and gave it whirl.  It pours a magnificent amber color and settled to a perfect head.  Unlike many pale ales, not only do you get a subtle hop floral sent, but you can also smell quality malts.  After I took a couple of sips, the balance of the hops with the malts was well done indeed.

India Pale Ales have their place in the beer world and so do mere Pale Ales.  Getting “blown away” with spice and hops is not for everyone. So, if your beer preference and palate enjoy a flavorful beer, with a nice subtle balance of hops and malts, I highly recommend River Horse Hop Hazard.
