Introducing Our 64 Beer March Madness Tournament!

Final Four Houston Introducing Our 64 Beer March Madness Tournament! Real Champions Rise to the Occasion!

By Matt Goldstein & Tim Rodgers

Whiskey Goldmine would like to officially introduce our 64 Beer March Madness Tournament.  An original concept dreamt up by the one and only Tim Rodgers, we will select 64 beers for a bracket tournament that will coincide with March Madness basketball and the winner will be declared our 2011 Beer Champion.  Through more than 20 taste testers, all styles, flavors, colors, micro & macro will be considered, but there will only one champion in the end.  Yes, our taste testers might come to a point where they have to choose between a Chimay Red and a Carona.  How can one choose?  Simply put, real champions rise to the occasion!  We are already searching bars and breweries high and low from NYC to Philly to Miami, Portland and LA for beers that will be considered.  It is extremely difficult even to narrow our field down to 64 so starting today; we will be holding conference championships.  For example, we will be tasting more than 10 Mexican style beers today such as Corona, Negra Modello, Sol, Tecate and many others.  This group of Mexican beers will be considered the Pac 10 of beers and receive 1 at large bid, with others to be considered depending on how they stack up to the competition leading up to tournament time.  The rankings will be announced throughout the selection period and explanations on the selections and winners will be explained.  We plan to go from about 400 beers down to 64 in 6 months, then from 64 to 1 during the basketball tournament.  Bottoms up bitches!
