The Top 50 Beers in America!

amarecian home brewers association logo 271x300 The Top 50 Beers in America!Home Brewers Association Ranks the Top 50 American Craft Beers!

Compiled By Matt Goldstein

Russian River’s Pliny the Elder sits a top another craft beer list as the Home Brewers association ranks the 50 best beers in America.  There’s a few things we like about this list such as a few pilsners getting respect, a style often ignored on craft beer lists which are usually dominated by imperial stouts, double IPA’s and quadruple Belgians.  We love seeing Sierra Nevada Celebration, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Avery Maharaja, Russian River Blind Pig, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, and Anchor Steam Ale, all of which deserve spots on any beer list.  Sam Adams Boston Lager is a solid beer, but that’s a bit suspect to be in the top 30, let alone the top 50 or 100 beers for that matter.  Let us know your thoughts on the Home Brewer top 50 beers in America.

Good to see Sierra Nevada atop the list. A solid brewery that often goes
overlooked. Really can’t argue much here except for perhaps Dogfish Palo Santo Marron. There’s a difference between being a unique beer and one of the best 50 IMO.

Although my man Tim doesn’t know shiit about anything,(specifically for voting republican), I have to completely agree here. Sierra Nevada continually comes with it over and over on almost every beer. And they’ve been using the same yeast strain since they started in the early 80’s. Every beer they make is actually related the original yeast.

  • Interesting to see that the much ballyhooed Pliny The Younger is off the list. Would like to have seen some beers from Brooklyn Brewery (Black Ops, Sorachi Ale), Southern Tier (Oak Aged Unearthly, Gemini, Pumking), Ninkasi (Triceahops, Total Domination IPA,)and Cigar City (Hunahpu, Jai Lai Cedar Aged IPA)on this list.

I do agree, however, that it’s nice to see a list that’s more diverse than the usual rankings.

    Cheers,

    Bill Z.

Maybe Pliny the Younger was left off the list because it’s more of a seasonal rarity than a regular beer. It’s just impossible to get. A little silly really. They could make millions if they just made more of it.
