A Low Calorie Premixed Margarita by Chi Chi’s and the Sazerac Co.
Chi Chi’s, a name synonymous with good taste and good value, introduces Skinny Margarita just in time for summer! At only 95 calories per serving, Chi Chi’s Skinny Margarita offers the same great taste found in the Original Margarita with fewer calories.
Already available at retail, sales for Skinny Margarita have been brisk and consumers love the way it tastes, reports Brand Director Lori Logan. “We saw the trend for reduced calorie margaritas at retail and in bars and restaurants and we set out to develop a low calorie product without compromising the taste. Response has been great. Sales are strong and everyone agrees it tastes as good as the Original Margarita!”
The great taste is due to the agave nectar used as the all-natural sweetener instead of sugar, leaving no bitter aftertaste associated with artificial sweeteners. The agave nectar is sourced from Mexico and has rapidly become the most trusted alternative sweetener. With no artificial colors, flavors or added sugars, Chi Chi’s Skinny Margarita is an all-natural product that consumers can enjoy without regret!
Like the other members of the Chi Chi’s family, Skinny Margarita already contains the alcohol, so fans can just grab it and go. Available in convenient sizes such as 1.75 L and 4 packs of 200 mL, Skinny Margarita is the perfect ready-to-drink cocktail ready for consumers to bring to their next pool party. Suggested retail pricing for the Skinny Margarita is $9.99 for the 1.75 L and $4.99 for the 4 pack of 200 mL.

Legend has it that before the Hispanic era, in what is now known as Jalisco, a group of Indians were looking for shelter from a storm and hid in an area full of Blue Agave. By the hand of the Mayan God Mayahuel, a flash hit the maguey bush and it began burning for hours. When Tlaloc the Rain God finally put out the fire, the aroma coming from the maguey bush was very enticing. When one Indian tasted the plant, he passed it around to the others and the Agave plant and tequila became one of the most important treasures to the tribes of pre-Hispanic Mexico. —The Tequila Correlejo web site.

Correlejo Reposado Tequila
Aged for 4 months in three different types of cask barrel; French Oak, American Oak and White Oak, this unique three cask reposado tequila has won double gold medals twice and three separate gold medals in international spirit competitions. The Correlejo Reposado has a scent of sweet caramel with a thick mellow sweet flavor. This tequila has a great mouth feel, and dry complexity and aftertaste. Correlejo is a solid reposado tequila.
.
Hornitos Reposado Tequila
The Hornitos Reposado is unique in that it is aged in large barrels and rarely touches the wood for a reposado tequila leaving it light in color. Mostly, the flavor of the oak and wood that liquors are aged in provide much of the character. Surprisingly, the Hornitos Reposado has a good oak flavor. With sweet notes and hints of oak the Hornitos has good mouth feel with a salty finish.
.
Casa Noble Reposado Tequila
The Casa Noble Reposado is aged for 364 days in new but lightly charred French White Oak Barrels. 364 days is the maximum time a tequila can be aged to be labeled a reposado. It’s also much more expensive to age as there are investment and storing costs, along with the angels’ share, the amount of liquor that evaporates from the barrel overtime. The longer it ages, the less you have. The Casa Noble Reposado Tequila is smooth, sweet with a thick mouth feel and great vanilla flavor. This is an excellent reposado with a great smooth finish.
At Cantina Feliz there are 8 different tequila flights available and about 50 different tequilas to choose from. So of course we went right for the Anejo Tequila flight with Don Julio, El Tesoro and Tres Generaciones. Check out the brief history of these three tequilas and a taste test review. The Reposado Tequila Flight review featuring Correlejo, Hornitos and Casa Noble is coming soon as well as a Cantina Feliz restaurant review.

Don Julio Anejo Tequila
Established in 1942 by Don Julio, this tequila is made with 100% blue agave. Matured in American White Oak Barrels for 18 months, the Don Julio Anejo Tequila is light and golden in color. With a vanilla scent and sweet flavor, well rounded and tangy, this Anejo has a great bite. There is a complex and charming finish with a sweet aftertaste. This is an excellent Anejo.
.
El Tesoro Anejo Tequila
Made with 100% agave and the winner of 9 gold medals in international spirit competitions, the El Tesoro Anejo Tequila is handmade and aged two to three years in oak barrels. Founded by Don Felipe, the El Tesoro Tequila is a family recipe dating back to the early 1800’s and the current La Atena distillery was founded in 1937. The El Teroso scent is complex and the flavor is spicy, dry and tasty. Also having sweet and buttery notes with hints of nuts, oak and wood, the El Tesoro Anejo is a unique and flavorful tequila.
.
Tres Generaciones Anejo Tequila
Made with 100% blue agave and aged in toasted American Oak Barrels for 12 months, Tres Generaciones Anejo Tequila is triple distilled. Tres Generaciones has also partnered with the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. This anejo is sweet, spicy and full flavored with a solid bite. Having good notes of oak and a lot character in the finish, the Tres Generacions Anejo Tequila is smooth and well balanced; very solid.
Jose Cuervo Gold & Casa Noble Crystal Steal the Show!
By Dan Shapiro and Matt Goldstein
Our blind taste test Tequila Trials featured six randomly selected tequilas. With three blanco tequilas tequila’s; Patron Silver, Casa Noble Crystal and 1800 Silver, and two Anejo’s or aged tequilas; Patron Anejo and Cazedores Anejo vs. Jose Cuervo Gold, all of the tequila’s selected were scored on style, flavor, complexity and overall distinction. The anejo, or aged tequila’s are much darker and usually matured or in wooden or oak barrels, giving the tequila a more complex and flavorful taste.
.
Casa Noble Crystal Tequila
The Casa Noble Blanco Tequila was the clear winner of our silver/blanco tequila trials. A triple gold medalist made from 100% Agave, Casa Noble Crystal Blanco Tequila is triple distilled and heated in stone ovens. With Agave grown in the central lowlands, Casa Noble Agave is aged up to 14 years before being harvested while most other Agaves are aged for about 4 to 5 years. The scent is a light agave with a spicy and complex flavor. The Casa Noble Crystal is very smooth with not much bite and a complex flavor in aftertaste. This is an exceptional tequila! We love it… Casa Noble Crystal Tequila is priced at about $40.
.
Patron Silver Tequila
Double distilled and made with 100% steam baked Weaber Tequilana Blue Agave, the Patron Silver is a crystal clear, very smooth and light flavored tequila. With a small bite, and perhaps smoothest of all the silvers, the aftertaste is also very light. The lack of flavor is the actual flavor in the Patron Silver. There is nothing too overbearing which presents a clean, easy drinking style with mass appeal. The Patron Silver is better than the 1800 Silver but it’s also twice the price, about $45.
.
1800 Silver Tequila
1800 Silver Tequila is made from 100% blue agave and mellowed in American Oak barrels for 15 days. The 1800 Silver Tequila scent is a bit medicinal with hints of agave, very much like Patron. The flavor is smooth but with a solid bite. 1800 Silver Tequila is a solid bar tequila and goes very well with mixed nuts. “The agave, it’s in there!” The 1800 Silver Tequila is priced at about $25.
.
Jose Cuervo Especial Gold
Jose Cuervo Especial Gold is the #1 selling tequila in the world. It’s also the most famous, and for good reason. The Jose Cuervo Gold completely stole the show at our first ever tequila trials. This everyday tequila, often considered average and just for mixing, is actually the perfect sipping tequila. The Jose Cuervo Gold crushed Patron Anejo and Cazedores Anejo while performing better than any of the silvers as well. The Jose Cuervo is spicy and sweet with an immediate bite. With excellent flavors of oak, the full bite of the Cuervo Gold creates a complex and beautiful flavor. Most people think that tequila must be smooth, but sometimes being exceptionally smooth is also excessively flavorless. The flavor is in the bite and the oak! Cuervo Gold is considered a joven tequila, blended with Reposado and other young tequilas. Cuervo is rested in wood barrels for about 3 months, giving the tequila notes of oak and vanilla. Jose Cuervo Gold is priced at about $20.
.
Patron Anejo Tequila
Double distilled and made with 100% steam baked Weaber Tequilana Blue Agave, The Patron Anejo is a blended tequila with all of parts of the blend aged for at least 12 months in small White Oak Barrels. Not every blend of the Patron Anejo is quite the same. The master distiller adjusts the blend of Anejo for each vintage. The Patron Anejo Tequila is sweet with notes of honey and citrus. Smooth but also complex with a good flavor, this is a much better tequila than the Patron Silver. We love this tequila! However, it was not really better then Jose Cuervo gold and it’s more than twice the price, about $45.
.
Cazadores Anejo Tequila
Cazadores Anejo Tequila is made from 100% Blue Agave from the Los Altos region of Jalisco and then aged for at least 12 months in small style American White Oak Cask barrels. The Cazadores Anejo is smooth and flavorful with a dry aftertaste. The flavor has notes of honey and nuts with the complexity of a light smooth whiskey because of the extensive aging for a tequila. The Cazadores Anejo is very good but didn’t perform as well as the Jose Cuervo and Patron. The Cazadores Anejo is priced at about $38.
Patron Reposado Tequila is aged in oak barrels for over two months and blended to have a clean flavor like Patron Silver, but with a hint of the oak flavor in Patron Anejo. According to Patron, Agave, which is the plant distilled to make tequila, has been used to make clothing and as a food source for more than 9000 years. Although Agave looks like a cactus, it is actually part of the lily flower family. Patron specifically uses the Blue Agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco Mexico. The Agave is then harvested at the peak of sweetness and then slowly steamed in small batches for about 36 hours. Each Patron bottle is unique and hand made by an artisan glassmaker in which about 20% of the bottles are actually rejected.

The Parton Reposado Tequila Flavor, Taste & Review
The color of Patron Reposado Tequila is clear, but with a beautiful light gold tint. The scent of the Reposado is a spicy agave with a mellow but tangy and sweet aroma. Having a small bite but long warming and thin mouth feel, the Patron Reposado is slightly dry with a complex aftertaste. The flavor is fruit, sweet and salty with a slight spicy touch. This is an excellent tequila! Although a bit pricy, we love the Patron Reposado Tequila! The Patron Reposado is best when served warm and sipped neat.
