When we first reviewed Avion Reposado Tequila, we knew it was more than the just the hype it was getting for being on HBO’s Entourage. That show was severely suspect; however, Avion Tequila is certainly not. Both smooth and complex, the Avion Reposado was a flat out stud. Now, it seems that the Avion Silver Tequila has cleaned up winning 5 awards at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition including a Double Gold Medal, Best Tequila and the prestigious Best White Spirit. Crushing the competition at the world’s most prestigious spirit competition will solidify Avion as one of the best tequila’s in the world, period.
When Avion was unknown, the marketing campaign behind this tequila put in prime time on one of HBO’s most popular shows. Now that it has won so many awards, expect the marketing campaign to step on the gas full throttle. Avion tequila has arrived as a main stream tequila, not only proving to be one of the best, but soon to be one of the best sellers. We can’t wait to get our hands on the silver and the anejo.
We’ve already tasted the Herradura Anejo Tequila multiple times and it’s simply of the best tequilas on the market, complex and exquisite. The Herradura Blanco is quite the same when compared to other silver and blanco tequilas. Smooth, refreshing and flavorful, the Herradua Silver Tequila is a better tequila than Patron, but for about half the price. We highly recommend all Herradura tequilas. This smooth, clean tequila is aged for 45 days to add a hint of color and oak to its tangy citrus character, which brings more agave flavor and unparalleled pleasure to a margarita.
Color: Light straw
Aroma: Green and cooked agave with herbal and slightly woody notes
Taste: Agave, woody notes and slightly citric flavor

Jose Cuervo Gold & Casa Noble Crystal Steal the Show!
By Dan Shapiro and Matt Goldstein
Our blind taste test Tequila Trials featured six randomly selected tequilas. With three blanco tequilas tequila’s; Patron Silver, Casa Noble Crystal and 1800 Silver, and two Anejo’s or aged tequilas; Patron Anejo and Cazedores Anejo vs. Jose Cuervo Gold, all of the tequila’s selected were scored on style, flavor, complexity and overall distinction. The anejo, or aged tequila’s are much darker and usually matured or in wooden or oak barrels, giving the tequila a more complex and flavorful taste.

Casa Noble Crystal Tequila
The Casa Noble Blanco Tequila was the clear winner of our silver/blanco tequila trials. A triple gold medalist made from 100% Agave, Casa Noble Crystal Blanco Tequila is triple distilled and heated in stone ovens. With Agave grown in the central lowlands, Casa Noble Agave is aged up to 14 years before being harvested while most other Agaves are aged for about 4 to 5 years. The scent is a light agave with a spicy and complex flavor. The Casa Noble Crystal is very smooth with not much bite and a complex flavor in aftertaste. This is an exceptional tequila! We love it… Casa Noble Crystal Tequila is priced at about $40.
.
Patron Silver Tequila
Double distilled and made with 100% steam baked Weaber Tequilana Blue Agave, the Patron Silver is a crystal clear, very smooth and light flavored tequila. With a small bite, and perhaps smoothest of all the silvers, the aftertaste is also very light. The lack of flavor is the actual flavor in the Patron Silver. There is nothing too overbearing which presents a clean, easy drinking style with mass appeal. The Patron Silver is better than the 1800 Silver but it’s also twice the price, about $45.
.
1800 Silver Tequila
1800 Silver Tequila is made from 100% blue agave and mellowed in American Oak barrels for 15 days. The 1800 Silver Tequila scent is a bit medicinal with hints of agave, very much like Patron. The flavor is smooth but with a solid bite. 1800 Silver Tequila is a solid bar tequila and goes very well with mixed nuts. “The agave, it’s in there!” The 1800 Silver Tequila is priced at about $25.

Jose Cuervo Especial Gold
Jose Cuervo Especial Gold is the #1 selling tequila in the world. It’s also the most famous, and for good reason. The Jose Cuervo Gold completely stole the show at our first ever tequila trials. This everyday tequila, often considered average and just for mixing, is actually the perfect sipping tequila. The Jose Cuervo Gold crushed Patron Anejo and Cazedores Anejo while performing better than any of the silvers as well. The Jose Cuervo is spicy and sweet with an immediate bite. With excellent flavors of oak, the full bite of the Cuervo Gold creates a complex and beautiful flavor. Most people think that tequila must be smooth, but sometimes being exceptionally smooth is also excessively flavorless. The flavor is in the bite and the oak! Cuervo Gold is considered a joven tequila, blended with Reposado and other young tequilas. Cuervo is rested in wood barrels for about 3 months, giving the tequila notes of oak and vanilla. Jose Cuervo Gold is priced at about $20.
.
Patron Anejo Tequila
Double distilled and made with 100% steam baked Weaber Tequilana Blue Agave, The Patron Anejo is a blended tequila with all of parts of the blend aged for at least 12 months in small White Oak Barrels. Not every blend of the Patron Anejo is quite the same. The master distiller adjusts the blend of Anejo for each vintage. The Patron Anejo Tequila is sweet with notes of honey and citrus. Smooth but also complex with a good flavor, this is a much better tequila than the Patron Silver. We love this tequila! However, it was not really better then Jose Cuervo gold and it’s more than twice the price, about $45.
.
Cazadores Anejo Tequila
Cazadores Anejo Tequila is made from 100% Blue Agave from the Los Altos region of Jalisco and then aged for at least 12 months in small style American White Oak Cask barrels. The Cazadores Anejo is smooth and flavorful with a dry aftertaste. The flavor has notes of honey and nuts with the complexity of a light smooth whiskey because of the extensive aging for a tequila. The Cazadores Anejo is very good but didn’t perform as well as the Jose Cuervo and Patron. The Cazadores Anejo is priced at about $38.
